Case Study: Corporate Fraud
A UK based manufacturing company had set up a subsidiary company in mainland Europe to sell its products. In time a drop in sales was noticed and it was felt that the contracted sales advisors were recommending rival products.
They instructed CY4OR directly to examine the relevant computers, and uncover computer based evidence in such a way as to allow the company to investigate what had happened. The forensic investigation had to be carried out at the premises with discretion, so not as to alert the suspicious employees to their investigation.
CY4OR analysts flew to Germany to secure the data as early as possible. All analysis was conducted according to ACPO guidelines so as to allow the company the option of taking legal action should they have felt it necessary. The parent company didn’t know exactly what they were looking for, but were sure that they would be able to piece together the activities if they could browse the documents.
CY4OR proposed an E Discovery solution, whereby all documents are entered into a searchable database. This would allow the company investigators to run indexed searches and browse documents on a simple to use piece of software, whilst maintaining the forensic integrity of the original files.
The company and its investors were given the information in a readily accessible format and had the confidence that any legal action taken could rely on the forensically sound evidence produced.
