Document Analysis for Forensic Evidence

Examining hidden information or 'metadata' that is embedded within electronic documents

Document analysis is a highly specialised area of forensics uncovering evidential facts buried deep beneath the surface.

Document analysis can provide the true dates and time of document creation, modification, printing and names of authors. This extracted and decoded data can identify inconsistencies between document files against a physical document.

An electronic document is richer in information and more complex than a paper document because it contains “metadata” hidden beneath the surface that is not visible to the average computer user.

Typically the CY4OR investigator may look at the true creation date of a document which is not visible to the untrained eye. We may also be asked to see if a document has been amended and saved throughout its history, how it has been accessed and if duplicates have been made. This is a key service for fraud related cases, contractual disputes and contentious employment matters.
